As Moliere's Tartuffe was almost immediately banned in France, without translations, the play may have died then and there. As there was less objection to the play in countries (like England and Holland) where the Roman Catholic Church played no influence on the monarch and government, Tartuffe was able to flourish despite its banning in its country and language of origin. Translation is key to increasing knowledge, exposing ideas cross-culturally, and preserving and promoting ideas, literature, and human enjoyment.
