A. Thomas Edison is always one of my favourites as a homeschooling example. After he had learned the basics, he was unschooled. He knew all kinds of historical stuff because he read extensively on it--no adult taught him it. Nobody taught him all the science he learned--he learned it from reading books and trying experiments found in books, then going beyond. His dad would try to get him to read some other books, to expand his mind--even paid him for it. Edison read the books, got the money, then used the money to purchase more chemistry stuff. :) And really, how do people with degrees know most of what they know? A. it's kind of funny, because this isn't a typical high school summer reading list... even for an Advanced Placement student. there is nothing here but science related material. is the person asking this question in a school designed for science education? personally, based on my own preferences i would pick up either Cosmos by Carl Sagan (informing yet easy to grasp), Congo by Crichton, the man who gave us Jurassica Park (he usually has decent science and is entertaining too), and Something Wicked This Way Comes by Bradbury (the guy is florid in prose and very imaginative. you have to pay attention to whats going on though) stay away from Brief History Of Time by Hawking (only people who really enjoy cosmology/astronomy should pick… [cont.]
